When I was 10 or 11 years old I passed by some restaurants in downtown Seoul, Korea and remember wishing that when I grow up, I want to be rich enough to eat whatever I want anywhere in the world. That's how I started measuring the success in life... "Eating Well". It's not that we were poor but I was rather obsessed with food. I'm a relatively thin person and people are often surprised by how much I can eat and still stay thin. I'm thankful for having a high metabolism!
Thankfully, I have been fortunate enough to travel throughout the world over the years with my husband Carlos. Along the way we have made many friends who we had many great meals with. This has enriched my life by 10 fold. I'm not sure how common this is, but I always remember a place by the meal I ate at that location. My husband always asks me "How do you remember that"? But I do with such a clarity... it just comes naturally to me. The most pleasant memories of my life involve food.
I remember when I was in elementary school, how I looked forward to going home to eat what my mom prepared for lunch or dinner. Growing up as an only child, my mom made sure that I ate the best food she could provide and still does at her age of 88! At one point in my life, I remember thinking "I live to eat" and not the other way around. I used to plan what i'm going to eat for dinner while eating lunch. If you think about it, how many truly joyful moments do you have in life? For me, many of those moments are eating exceptionally good food. These days, I've been eating out more than cooking. And I always get excited to hear and share about great restaurants and recipes I can try. Here we are on the journey of finding, sharing, and enjoying life thru great food! Cheers to our wonderful food life!
