Tidbits: Hemp Seeds

by Marjan

My philosophy towards food has consistently been to eat ingredients that are not only tasty, but nutritious. This savorychick is not a saint, for sure! Occasionally, I love my fried, sugary, salty, variations of ingredients. But I believe in balancing it all. After a night of sinful indulgence, the next day, I will go to my garden and pick fresh fruits and vegetables to ease my conscious and ask my body for forgiveness!

Recently, I have discovered Hemp Seeds! Sold in most health food stores, this nutty flavored seed contains all the essential fatty acids and amino acids necessary to maintain healthy human life. No other single plant source has the essential amino acids in such an easily digestible form, nor has the essential fatty acids in a perfect ratio to meet human nutritional needs. Hemp seed proteins are the building blocks of life and immunity!

Some interesting figures based on a 2,000 calorie daily value: three tablespoons of hemp seed contains 170 calories, 25% Thiamin, 45% Phosphorous and Magnesium each, and 110% Manganese!!!!

Sounds good! What about the taste? If you enjoy sunflower seeds and nuts, you will love hemp seed. It is a light, flakey, nutty seed. It does not overwhelm your taste buds, but it is sure to leave you feeling full and satisfied! The exceptional nutritional values are simply a bonus!

Sprinkle some hemp seed on salad or yogurt. Or simply grab a handful. Enjoy this nutty seed as a healthy snack.

If you have any recipes using hemp seed, please share it with us. Next week, I will present to you my tropical salad recipe using hemp seed.
