A Weekend Getaway - Lenkerhof Switzerland
by Anja
It was for Roland's birthday. Our first weekend getaway without little Julie.
I had heard so many good things about Lenkerhof, that it was time to try this 5-star resort in the Bernese Alps. The house is full of history, originally built 350 (!) years ago and remodeled recently. They kept many original parts (for example, a wonderful old hard-wood-floor). The bar area remindend me a lot of Casa del Mar in Santa Monica. Marjan and I spent many wonderful cocktail hours there, so I wished she could have been with us at Lenkerhof.
The service at the hotel was excellent, the spa area ok, but not outstanding. Nothing I would come back for. What would make me go back in an instant was the food. Oh my!! I had no idea Switzerland has such great chefs!!
"Head chef Jan Leimbach, awarded a 16-point Gault Millau rating, and his team are here to pamper your palate with the most exquisite delicacies, created from premium ingredients and featuring a whole range of regional products such as meat, milk and cheese, fruits and vegetables (organically farmed, of course)."
Each day they offer a 15-course menu, out of which you can order as many courses as you want (and even get a refill if you really liked something). Let me say, I was in heaven!!
Here a few images that hopefully speak for themselves:
Next morning's brunch was a hit, too. One of the best brunch buffets I have seen in my life: great bread (very important!), cheeses, jams and honey, fruits, all kinds of grains, seeds and dried fruit, and a nice selection of coffees and teas.
