German Apple Cake… Apfelkuchen

It’s fall and that means apple time. Every autumn I get the urge to try new apple cake or pie recipes and so it happened that I made this apple cake based on a traditional German recipe.
It turned out so yummy, that I wanted to share this with you.

Ingredients:

2 lb. sour apples
1 lemon
4 oz. raw marzipan(marzipan paste)
½ cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 oz. unsalted butter
4 eggs
4 tablespoons cream
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup flour
1 pinch salt
powdered sugar for dusting

1. Peel apples and quarter. Remove core. Lightly cut into the surface of the outer side of the apples (as if you were to slice them thinly). Drizzle with lemon juice.

2. Mix marzipan with sugar and vanilla extract. Add butter, eggs and cream, mix until smooth. Add flour, baking powder and salt.

3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Butter a spring form and fill in the batter. Place apples on top with the scratched surface up. Bake for 45 min.

4. Let cool and dust with powdered sugar.

Enjoy!
